We at Pride have chosen the date of June 29th 2019 to hold Colchester Pride to coincide with the 50th anniversary since The Stonewall Riots in New York and the birth of LGBTQ+ liberation. It is also the 50th year since Judy Garland died and became not only a gay icon but secret code for being LGBTQ+ as to be a friend of Dorothy has been a term in use since the late 1960’s.
We have a lot to do in a short space of time, and our organising committee are committed to ensuring Pride happens in Colchester next year and beyond. We are tasked with raising some much needed funds in order to bring you the quality event you’ve come to expect at Pride, and are looking at funding options as well as organising fundraiser events to achieve this end.
We thank everyone involved in previous years, from committee to venue, sponsors and business, organisers to volunteers, we appreciate your support and trust we can rely on the great relationships already established, as well as being keen to build new ones. We know Pride in Colchester is important to you, and we believe it is a great day for Colchester, bringing together communities, with visibility, celebration and education being the key to breaking down stigma & discrimination, and continuing the fight for equality.
Watch this space for news on our 1st upcoming fundraiser which we hope to see you all at.
